The Mark of the Beast

I asked Spencer yesterday what he thought the Mark of the Beast was mentioned in scripture, which one was supposed to receive in your right hand or forehead, or you could not buy or sell in the latter days.

I was interested in his reply, because it was not what I expected. Remember, this is Spencer’s opinion, and my interpretation of what he said. It is not church doctrine, just something to consider.

Spencer suggested that the “mark of the beast” began about 10 to 15 years ago, and has been very subtle, but today it is more bold and more invasive in our lives. He didn’t describe it as a microchip that everyone had to have at the grocery store.

He said in all of the visions he has had of the latter days, that there was no effort he saw to “mark” people in this way. He said it began when we were all assigned social security numbers, and we were given the mindset that some great new order would take care of us. That was the beginning of the lie that was to become the “mark of the beast” over time.

He went on to describe it as beginning as a culture, a new way of thinking, a form of political correctness that could take any truth and recolor it as a lie, and take any lie and relabel it as truth. He said, one of the first things it did was to begin to make traditional Christian believing into the counter culture. It ridiculed traditional families, traditional marriage, traditional prayer in schools, traditional patriotism, traditional self-reliance, and traditional religion. It recast all of these traditional things as wrong, outdated, and incorrect. They made true and virtuous things “insensitive” and other labels. They took things like homosexuality and made it acceptable and modern, and natural. They took basic liberties, like freedom of speech, and built walls around it, abridging it and excluding words and remarks from its protection. It took expressions of faith, like Christmas music and nativity scenes, and made them “offensive” and “inappropriate”.

Traditional values became the “stick in the mud”. Through our faith, and defense of what is true, we became the power to carry the Lord’s purposes forward, and thus the enemy. Christianity in any form became bigotry, paranoia, radical or some other unsavory label.

For more than a decade we have had the choice to either join into the new-age thinking, and become politically correct, or to choose to believe and to be what the Lord has commanded, and is guiding us to do.

Someone accepts the mark of the beast when they buy into the lies of political correctness and all that it promotes, including abortion, homosexuality, sexual licentiousness, gender confusion, gender blending, and gender changing, persecution of Christians, Robin Hood social programs, social distinction and class envy, just to name a few. It causes you to merge into the world, to melt into the homogeny of “everyone else” who supposedly believes as you now do. You begin to defend and promote things which are politically correct, but which are not true in an eternal sense.

My children have been trained in school to literally shudder to think of being called upon to offer a prayer in school. They feel as if they should be arrested and thrown in jail for public prayer. This is a lesson the Beast has successfully infiltrated into their generation. It is a true revulsion they have expressed from time to time, and nothing we can say has altered that element of their indoctrination.

When you decide to embrace this false religion of political correctness, it changes you into the image of the world. The world looks upon you as “enlightened” and “liberated” which feels good to most people. But, the mark of the beast is burned into our bone and sinew. It becomes a part of us. It deafens us to the Holy Spirit, and blinds us to the process of spiritual growth and the building Zion.

Zion is the pure in heart and the mark of the beast is the exact opposite. The mark creates disunity in the name of diversity and tolerance. No longer are we God’s children, or Americans, we are a part of some “special” class which must be embraced by all. It creates the illusion of unity by building distrust and hatred of what traditional beliefs and traditional families, which the majority of Americans still believe.

The mark of the beast creates dependency on government. It makes us fully dependent upon the structure of government to survive. Thus, we give up our liberties and freedoms and vote away our foundation of liberty, because it is necessary for the “beast” to continue as it is in order for us to survive. When you suckle the teat of unearned benefits, the teat must not run dry. We become willingly feed the beast anything it demands, including our life, liberty and soul, to keep it lactating.

The order of Zion is to be pure in heart, to gather with unity and mutual support, and to become one with Jesus Christ and with His disciples. In order to receive the mark, one must betray these principles in order to live. It is to choose a Gadianton lifestyle, where the Beast takes from those that have, and redistributes it to those who think they have-not. It creates the belief that one can, and should, and deserves to survive by preying upon someone else. That’s probably the reason it is characterized as a “beast” because it devours many to enslave even more.

The mark is in the right hand – because it is the hand with which we make covenants with God. With the mark of the beast in the right hand, it overlays and eventually ends the blessings of covenants.

The mark is in the forehead – because it is in the face and countenance that we see the Light of Christ. It is in the face that we see the glow of righteousness and the image of God in our countenance. When the mark is fully made, it creates darkness there, instead of light.

When one embraces and accepts the mark and the protection of the Beast, you are no longer independent, but a slave to whatever the Beast demands, whether it is a work schedule that sacrifices home and family, or the enslavement of millions for the illusion of security, or demands that you must believe and do certain things in order to be acceptable, or to be “appropriate”.

It has already occurred that it is almost impossible to make a living or buy and sell anything without using the number of your name. You can’t hold a job, get insurance, rent or buy a home, borrow money, or travel without that number. That part of the prophecy has been fulfilled. But, this fulfillment is more of a statement of evidence that these times are here, and that the Beast is alive and active, than a sign that we are all doomed. It is not to say that we should all “opt out” of “the system”, and go create a commune somewhere.

The Beast wants to enslave something much more important than our bank accounts and ability to buy. He wants our enslavement to a set of beliefs that will effectively keep the Holy Spirit from purifying our hearts, and bringing us to the great, greater and greatest blessings this gospel offers in the latter-days.

We can still have a job, and buy at Wal-Mart without selling our souls – but we must not allow the darkness of uninspired philosophy and political correctness to stand between God’s voice and our desire to conform to the “new normal”.

The real war is a war of philosophy, belief and obedience to God’s voice. We must choose to believe truth, to reject the lies – no matter how “correct” the world screams they are, and walk a path that will bring us to our greatest potential. Then we will have the “mark” of God in our right hands (for those with ears to hear) and in our foreheads (for all to see the Light which originates from the divine Lamp) to eliminate the beastly darkness from our lives and deliver us from the enslavement of evil.

Wow. This blog is a delightful discovery. Having come out of 34+ years of government service, I felt increasingly discriminated against, abused, mobbed, belittled and cheated for my beliefs. Ultimately I decided to retire and leave the government on a morning when I was reading in Helaman 5 about how Nephi left the head of government when he saw the corruption of the people in it. Thank you for creating this forum.

  2. Tree says:

John – PLEASE consider releasing the book as an e-book so we can buy it right away. Things seems to be ramping up all the time. Traditional publishing takes so long!

    • When it comes out it will also be in ebook format. I am waiting for the publisher to decide what they want to do. I have a contractual obligation to them. But, I also have another offer from a different publisher if they decline. Publishing has changed so much in the last few years. Self publishing is a viable option now days. The world is expecting paper editions of books to become more obsolete some day.

Thanks for your interest. I’m working hard to get it out.

  3. Wendy says:

I haven’t been following this blog for very long, but who is Spencer? Can you tell us more, or have i missed it somewhere?

    • John Pontius says:

      Dear Wendy,

You have missed a small part is all. I’m writing a book for Spencer, about a series of NDE’s he’s had where he saw the end of the world. It is very intriguing. I’m hoping to be done with it in a couple months, and hopefully on the shelves next year.

  4. Justin Smith says:

I think we need to remember that we are what we eat, or in other words we are what we think about. Pres. McKay said that the most sacred form of prayer is meditation. What is it that we think about all day every day for the years of our lives??? The clean and unclean food diet that Moses gave the Israelites is the embodiment of this, to help them not to participate in socialism or communism. Think of the characteristics of the clean and unclean animals…what did they eat?? Where were their eyes located… in the front with limited vision, or on the sides of their heads where they can see all things more clearly???

  5. James says:

I am reminded of Moroni 7, where Mormon addresses they “that are of the church, that are the peaceable followers of Christ, and that have obtained a sufficient hope by which ye can enter into the rest of the Lord” with this admonition: ” Wherefore, take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge that which is evil to be of God, or that which is good and of God to be of the devil.”

That sounds like ‘watch out for the pc in your midst’. It always sounds so good. Just like the philosophy of universal tolerance, which was the doctrine of Korihor. So the mark is the inability to discern good from evil. It starts by looking elsewhere for guidance and endorsement, besides God.

Helaman 3:33 and John 6:66 are interesting verses. Not sure if the numbers were meant to be significant or just a remarkable coincidence.

  6. McKay Platt says:

    Here’s your quote:

    1843-44, TPJS p.321
Four destroying angels holding power over the four quarters of the earth until the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads, which signifies sealing the blessing upon their heads, meaning the everlasting covenant, thereby making their calling and election made sure. When a seal is put upon the father and mother, it secures their posterity, so that they cannot be lost, but will be saved by virtue of the covenant of their father and mother.

    • Donald says:

Thank you McKay. That is not the quote I was looking for…. as I recall, Joseph said something like ” I wlll give you a sign….it’s a mark on the top of the head… and will not say more.” —or something like that…. It may have been in “The Words of Joseph Smith” which I will have to search.

  7. Rochelle says:

Thank you for this article…I am stunned by how easily I have allowed myself to accept the mark of the beast at least as far as debt is concerned. I never have bought into the Politically Correct nonsense.

We are doing all we can to get out of debt…and start a small business to take care of our needs as we live on Social Security Benefits.

I will be passing this article along to my friends and family.

  8. SBH says:

This was a very thought-provoking post for me. My opinion is that this proposed meaning of the mark is accurate. I would add that in these last days the mark also is applied to those who have sold their integrity for money. I am sure it has escaped no one’s notice that in this day it is nearly impossible if not impossible to engage in business without having your integrity challenged. Lie a little, cheat a little, dig a pit for your neighbor seems to be the new way to put food on the table or to get that promotion. My husband lost his job for refusing to engage in this behavior.

Meanwhile nearly every close friend and family member of ours has been taken advantage of finacially with illegal or immoral business practices. Whenever a company “takes off” or “goes public” with the value soaring to seven figures, friendships dissolve and dirty, underhanded business practices reign. Then the lawyers get involved. Lives are shattered. I see these scenarios repeated over and over among the “upstanding” LDS community in Utah County. I know these behaviors are found all across the globe, but I am sickened that they are part of my neighborhood.

Our experience is you can’t “buy or sell” (engage in business) without this mark. This may not be everyone’s experience, but I think the day will come when we will declare this a pandemic with every area of commerce, every business, and every individual affected in one way or another.

  9. Jared Eastley says:

    This article gets 10 stars!

To me, it spells out the great dangers inherent with government schools, the popular media, and most of the institutions in the world. We need to be so careful that we are receiving our teaching from true messengers sent from the Father and not at all from those whose goals are to teach to us the philosophies of men mingled with scripture.

We worship the god we learn from.

This is reminiscent of a favorite scripture of mine:
“For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived—verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day.”
    (D&C 45:57)

We really only have two choices: 1) Receive the Holy Ghost, or 2) Receive the Mark of the Beast. It really is that simple.

  10. ken h says:

My brother-in-law lives with his wife and six children in Utah. None of his children have social security numbers. They are home taught. He runs his own business and has land and a home he owns free and clear. This understanding of the “Mark of the Beast” is very enlightening. Holding to the Iron Rod with the Holy Spirit guiding every step to the tree of life and staying near the tree is so important. The people in the large and specious building seek to imprint the mark on each of us. Being true to the marks in our garments is the owly way to keep as it were the mark of the beast from replacing them in our lives. Thank you John.

    • John Pontius says:

I know people in Alaska who did the same thing – but for different reasons. They were hiding from the law or taxes or something. If an off-the-grid life is where God leads you, then go there. I also accept that God values people who are in the world, but not of the world, who can serve in plain sight and hold up the standard of truth without fear.

  11. Donald says:

oh dear…. reading my last comment was sure confusing… sorry.

I ment to say I can’t find the quote by Joseph Smith. I promise I have not been looking for marks on the top of my old bald head.

  12. Donald says:

    pardon my typos. I’m sorry.

  13. Donald says:

John, Here is a comment from the Prophet Joseph:

    TPJS Page 321 Given Aug 13, 1843

“The world is reserved unto burning in the last days. He shall send Elijah the prophet, and he shall reveal the covenants of the fathers in relation to the children, and the covenants of the children in relation to the fathers. The servants of God must be sealed in their foreheads meaning the everlasting covenant thereby making their calling and election sure. The speaker continued to teach the doctrine of election and the sealing of fathers and children.”

I believe most of us believe Lucifer has his counterfeit mark…. patterned perhaps after God’s. I’ve always believe the mark Joseph talk about above was some kind of mark that the angels would recognize. I think I’ve read somewhere that Joseph said that mark would be placed on the tops of our heads…. but I can’t find it. I wondered if you had any thoughts about this sealing mark on the servants of God?

    • John Pontius says:

Yes, just as the quote you used says, when you receive the mark, it makes your calling and election sure. The mark is not a manmade mark. It is a mark seen by God, angels, and His servants, which witnesses to your state of righteousness.

I have studied this before, but not specifically wondering about the mark. I’ll take a look at some of my notes and if there’s something interesting, I”ll Un-Blog it later.

      Thanks for the question.

  14. Lance says:

There is certainly much to ponder in this post. Does Spencer see this politically correct mentality eventually becoming so overwhelming that society will refuse to do business with (buy or sell) those who do not accept this PC indoctrination? What has begun as PC social pressure will evolve into something with the force of law behind it? I guess that has already begun in many ways.
Also, did Spencer share any insight into the “number” of the beast referenced in Rev. 13:18?

    • John Pontius says:

Yes and no. He sees it as growing greater and greater until the evil are destroyed. It will be this darkness in their faces which mark them as goats when the cleansing fires approach.

It already has the force of law. Try offering to give a prayer before a public meeting, or singing a Christ-centered song at a public Christmas performance, or erecting a nativity in a public park.

I’ll ask about the number. It didn’t occur to me when we were talking. Quite often Spencer says “I don’t know. I didn’t see that.” It will be interesting to ask.

  15. thom Harrison says:

Thank you john always insightful and meaningful. May we all follow the reveled words of God and not He who take us away from HIM.

  16. Rob says:

I feel trapped. I’m living by govt assistance in education (school programs, school lunches, school therapists, etc.), loan modification, health insurance, govt scholarships, employment, etc. I was married in the temple so all of my children can be born in the covenant. However, because of ignorance, my children are born, unknowingly, dependent on the beast, and born into the covenant of the beast… Debt!
I’m scrambling to escape this church of the devil… Debt!
I believe that it is only possible as we unite and fight the beast by eliminating his hold on us due to debt. However the debt that the powers of the world promote have become so great that uniting to get rid of it requires a great deal of faith.

    • John Pontius says:

We all started there. The repentance process is to do just as you are now doing, to recognize the trap, and then to work over time to get out of it. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Like all other parts of life, it takes a lifetime to grow and become. Just let the Holy Spirit guide you, and all will be well.

    • Emily says:

I am there too. I know that heavenly father loves his children and will deliver us if we have faith. Debt is bondage, but we are not alone in it. Just like the children of Israel escaping Egypt we are wandering around in the wilderness (trying to fight for our freedom from debt). Let us learn from the isrealites mistakes, do everything the lord ask no matter how simple and insignificant it may be. The lord will provide.

  17. Cheryl Dilworth says:

Thank you!!! Very insightful and food for thought. What you wrote reminds me of Orwell’s 1984 book, along with the Book of Mormon’s showing when the govt. was taken over by the wicked that the few righteous fell into line with the pressures of PC thinking.

    Cheryl Dilworth

  18. Steve says:

I love this interpretation, mainly because it is so easy for those with discerning eyes to see; it rings so true, and it works so insidiously just like Satan works (coincidence? I think not!). We see the secularization of the Christian sects, how those sects buy in to the leftist ideals of Babylon. More and more we see churches set up in the name of “social justice,” which is only a term used to market socialism. Those churches are pushing big government programs and benefiting because they will be favored by the government. They are really set up to get gain, aren’t they?

Babylon is Satan’s counterfeit to Zion. Satan always sets up his kingdom inopposition to God’s Kingdom, but Satan’s plan hasn’t changed; he still seeks to take away our agency. The government, as in Marxist/Maoist societies, is working to replace God in the lives of all. Isn’t this the fight the Nephites fought against invading Lamanites and Nephite dissenters? The fight for freedom and liberty? As the evangelist said, there is nothing new under the sun. We just seem to have a really hard time learning from history.

    Thanks for sharing.

BTW, I just picked up “Following the Light of Christ…” I’m rather enjoying the insight and the writing style, too.
