Goshen Fireside Audio

The Goshen Fireside Audio is now available at http://followingthelight.org/books-and-essays/. Scroll down a little to find the “Fireside Soundtracks” section.

Sorry I forgot earlier. There’s a little sound on the recording that sounds like an electronic bumblebee from time to time. I don’t know what that’s from. Sorry. The rest of the recording is fine.

God Bless Goshen,

Brother John

For those late comers to your spiritual feedings, would you please identify who :Spenser” is??

I’m sorry Anita, Spencer is a friend of mine who has died four times and had many visions of the future. I just wrote a book of his experiences, “Journey to Zion”. It should be coming out next year.

Thanks for sharing the fireside for those of us who don’t live nearby. Can you please tell a reference where we learn that Abraham asked for the priesthood to go to the gentiles? Thanks.

      Hi Lisa,

It wasn’t to the gentiles, they were all descendants of Noah at that point. The patriarchal priesthood was to family heads (Patriarchs) only. If you were the second born, or a cousin or nephew, it just wasn’t allowed. Melchizedek obtained the privilege of giving it to the rest of his family regardless of their order in the family. That’s when it changed from the old “patriarchal priesthood” such as Noah held, into the Melchizedek Priesthood which we now have, and which is no longer patriarchal in nature, but conditioned only upon worthiness.

And, you know what, its been a long time since I had the quote in my hands where that comes from. I think it was Joseph F. Smith, but I’ll have to look it up again. I probably won’t get back to this until the new year, so remind me if I forget.

      Thanks for asking,

      John

    Just a tip…

I think the bumble bee sound is actually from a cell phone. That’s the very same sound my computer speakers make if I put my cell phone near them. So perhaps there was a phone near the recording device?

You know what’s funny about that – I recorded it on my phone with a lapel microphone. I think I need to put it on “airplane mode” when I use it that way. I usually do, but apparently forgot to in this case. Thanks for the clarification.

Concerning more translated beings from among His followers in the Old world, The Savior in Mark 9:1 states,”And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.” We know he meant John, the Beloved, but with the word “some” this could very well include Phillip and others as well.

Thank you for sharing this fireside with us. I have been so spiritually feed in that questions that were raised were questions I have had and the answers were food for pondering and rejoicing because of the hope given and the greater desire to be obedient to the Holy Spirit; and strive to be Christ like.

You mentioned at about 3:50 of the recording that the Apostle Phillip was translated. I’ve never heard that before. Could you provide more detail or perhaps a reference for that?

    • John Pontius says:

I hope I said “It’s possible that the apostle Phillip was translated as well because he exhibited some of the translated gifts, like disappearing after speaking to the Roman Centurian in the chariot.” I didn’t listen through the recording, but that is how I remember saying it – or that is how I should have said it.

As far as I know, I’m the only one who has said Phillip might be translated. The reason is that talking to someone, not revealing your identity, and then disappearing a moment later is the way translated people commonly do their work. I don’t have any proof other than than.

John, thank you for providing the audio for this fireside. It is wonderful. It wouldn’t be fair to say the best one yet because so many of your firesides are so edifying and inspirational, but this one is very, very special.
