Bruce R. McConkie’s Last Testimony

Bruce R. McConkie’s final General Conference address was a magnificent testimony of Christ’s life and sacrifice for us. It was like hearing scripture being dictated, but it was his own words. It is still one of the greatest sermons ever delivered in my hearing. The whole address is beautiful and worth reading (click here).

I have copied the last sentences of his testimony below. Elder McConkie died 13 days later.

“And as pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that he is the Son of the Living God who was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself independent of any other person. I am one of his Witnesses. And in the coming day I will feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s almighty Son and he is our Savior and Redeemer and that Salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way.

God grant that all of us will walk in the light, as God our Father is in the light so that according to his promises the blood of Jesus Christ his son will cleanse us from all sin. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ Amen.”

I weep for joy everytime I watch it. He knew the Lord personally and everyone knew that the Elder McConkie knew as well. He stated his testimony as straight forward and clear as English can state it. When in doubt, leave no doubt. Thanks again John.

    Hi Brother John,

I have the full audio recording of this talk on my computer and listen to it from time to time. It is wonderful. If you don’t have the audio, I’d be glad to send it to you. It is very powerful to hear it in his own voice, just days before his death.

His testimony of the Savior is seared into my heart. I was the Primary Chorister when the children sang, I Believe in Christ” in the annual program. As part of teaching them this hymn, I copied this portion of his conference talk onto a tape and played the first paragraph above. Despite the adult arrangement of this hymn, the children sang with enthusiasm and ferver.
